romanian version
In XV century Biertan was a florishing village. Here were in business 28 groups of handy workers. Because of it’s intense economic life this settlement had the same range with Medias. In XV-XVII centuries has been built here a very powerful peasant fortress on the older building spot. From the almost 300 fortified churches built in XV-XVII in Transylvania, the church from Biertan is the only one which keeps it’s original look almost unchanged. The Transylvanian Saxons have built here one of their characteristic kind of settlement taking advantage of the privilege gave to them by the Hungarian kings who was ruling this area at the time.
Starting with 1993 the entire village was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Biertan is surrounded by forests with a fine flora and fauna. From here it’s possible to make marvelous one day trip to Sighisoara, known like “Pearl of Transylvania”, Sibiu, known like “The Saxons Capital”, etc. In our village the tourists can take advantage from a totally stress less ambiance.
The building of our home stay is the oldest house from Biertan. In the same building are functioning our home stay and a pharmacy which is one of the ancient pharmacy in Transylvania. The original furniture and facilities can be seen at the Bruckenthal museum in Sibiu, main city of the county.
